I live in San Antonio, but will be traveling to The Valley for work next week and I need to book a hotel. I have previously stayed at the Embassy Suites and was very happy with my stay. The rates have gone up, so I was hoping to find something a little more affordable. I will be working at the Alfredo Gonzalez Veterans Home on E Yuma, so something relatively closeby would be great. I am a young female professional traveling alone so safety and security are my first priority. I have been looking at the Hilton Garden Inn and the Holiday Inn Express on South Tenth St, any experiences with these places? Also any other suggestions would be great! TIA!

Hello, I have stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott in McAllen across the street from Hilton. Their staff is excellent and their rooms are much larger and equipped with full kitchens, and free breakfast and dinner. I always trust Marriott. Rates are better than embassy and hilton, and much more comfy. I am also a young femal prof. and they have 24 hour front desk and security. I felt safe!!

The Hilton Garden Inn is nice--it's been a couple of years, but I stayed there before moving here. There are several nice, new hotels/motels near the mall, which is right by the veteran's home.
