Say Chayo, how big is that casino in Eagle Pass? I know its run by the Kickapoo tribe. It sucks that its the only casino in Texas.

The opportunity is almost too good to be true, so please yall...for those who are the least familiar with Eagle Pass, tell me why I should or should not go..Thanks yall

We have family living in Eagle Pass. Some retired, some in construction, and some in nursing homes.
Eagle Pass is the most hispanic city in the USA. All the locals joke that the only gringo in town is the major and they all think he is great.
Housing is inexpensive even compated to the rest of Texas.
Crime is not an issue, almost non existent. You also have the advantage of Mexico close at hand.
Allende is close to the USA, safe and has everything.
I am north american caucasian my wife hispanic and we visit and everyone is always very friendly.
If I can answer anything more specific just ask.

Don´t come here, the weather sucks, and there´s nothing fun to do but drink your ass off and spend your money in a mediocre casino, but if you are ignorant enough and careless like most of the people over here, then, your are very welcome.

I am glad to read these post about Eagle Pass. I have an job opportunity(medical field) to come out and check things out next week. Are there a lot or many of African Americans there? I like diversity and plan to attend college to become bilingual so this may be up my area....

Definitely come out and see for yourself. It's a typical, dirty, small, isolated Mexican border town. There's also no college there, so unless you plan to do Rosetta Stone, you will have a tough time finding a way to learn Spanish.

The little dollar signs going off in your head are interfering with the real math. And your integrity. Go to Eagle Pass for the love of caring for patients, not the 'I will do anything for money'.
Eagle Pass may be nice, but little to do. And a 2 plus hours to drive up to San Antonio can get monotonous. If you are going with family then not so bad.
Also remember a lot of your patient's and families of them do not speak English. Making your job a little difficult and a little less fulfilling if nursing is more your passion than your 'show me the money'.
Do the math. You are getting 36,000 sign on bonus for a 2 year commitment. But your rate of pay is less than if you go to other places in the US. Chicago easily pays 50.00 plus per hour. I worked North Chicago 2 days a week and pulled in over 120,000 with benefits. California, well you can work forever for agency making more money and enjoy the life that the cities have to offer. Having been in 17 states I travel because I enjoy American history and nursing is my passion. Having a military pension means I do not have to take the best paying jobs, or a job for that matter, but the ones where I feel I can do the most good.
Yes, Eagle Pass is nice. The bonus is paid out in 4 installments. But come to do good. Remember the virtue of nursing.
