Yeah, but that's not as significant. Alico was what spurred off skyscraper development west of Mississippi and still considered as one of the strongest architectural structures due to the fact it was able to survive An F4 tornado.

Yea I understand that but…Why are you such a homer? Every metropolitan area can over hype and over exaggerate their credentials. I love DFW born and raised but half this stuff you speak of is highly exaggerated at best.

Yes, and for the rest of the time Houston was the one with the tallest.

You said Dallas started the skyscraper thing, when it did not.
Dallas people make the wildest claims

I am not sure if ALICO spured the skyscraper developent

Work on that building started in 1910 and it is 246 ft tall.

Houston had the 806 Main already completed in 1910 and it is 306 ft tall.

So Houston was still ahead, but Waco was ahead of Dallas .

But even before that Houston had the Lomas and Nettleton building which was the tallest building west of the Mississippi in 1904.

Houston had a 428 ft tower from 1929-1963. They finally built a 606 ft tower in 1963. Dallas had a 522 ft tower in 1942.

Fort Worth actually had a building called block tu that was suppose to rival the Bank of America building in Dallas but Fort Worth being Fort Worth scraped the project. The Fort Worth Omni Hotel was originally suppose to have been a 50+ story tower but the city scaled it down in size.
