I qualify, just have never joined (though my aunts and sister were all members). Also the Daughters of the Confederacy and the DAR (on the back of a horse stolen by the Revolutionary Army, that one).

We actually go back to (or, rather, before, of course) April 21, 1836.

I probably qualify through one of my ancestors, though it hasn't been proven yet. A distant cousin who is in the SRT has been working on it.

TexasHorseLady, I also qualify for DOC and DAR through many ancestors. We're probably related. LOL

It's a fun organization, but I would caution that getting in a small town instead of a big city might be better. I was in a big city chapter many years ago and it felt stilted. The small town has a better feel.

Great post and topic, GY!

I don't personally qualify, as all my people came to Texas just right after the "Civil War." But...I know some in our SCV group who do fit the requirements, so will pass this info on to them!

I think at one time we had a chapter in Wichita Falls...?

Gosh, embarrasing thing for someone like me who bleeds Lone Stars along with the Confederate Gray, to admit my Texas generations go back only (completely) four?

Texas Reb, don't worry, there is a group for Texas Rebs and also Union. There is also groups for 1812 and American Rev. (SAR and DAR). I'm sure you can qualify for some; and if you were in service, there is VFW.
Regards,
gy2020

I have been in the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) for going on 25 years (was even North Texas Brigade commander at one time! LOL), but didn't have the ancestry to be a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas (not quite back six generations...only four! LOL).

BUT...some of the members of our camp DO go back that far, and I will share your info with them.

In fact, you might know a guy who was in it in our hometown. I will DM you on it.

God Bless Texas!

I would qualify for the DRT because of my paternal great-whatever grandfather coming along with the De Zavala colony in the 1830s. I just never applied.

I'm pretty sure I'd qualify, but never applied. Through my genealogy research I found one American Revolution era ancestor and a story along with him about him holding some correspondence and hiding in a barn for a bit to evade capture.
