Meridian State Park: Nice compact park with a small lake and hiking trails around it. Makes a good afternoon day trip from Waco with the kids, dog, and canoe. Never very crowded.

We've been to quite a few, but my favorite is South Llano River State Park. Great camping and facilities, spring-fed swimmin' hole, river for tubing, what else do you need???

I also like Davis Mountains State Park (near Marfa), Emma Long (Austin), and McKinney Falls. Gardner (or was it Garner?)... but yeah, South Llano is my favorite.

Davis Mountains S.P. is my favorite. I love that area. Indian Lodge is a great place to stay, too.

Default Lake Mineral Wells

Lake Mineral Wells S.P. & Trailway

Great memories. I visited my wife and her family (when we first started dating) one day during their stay. We went for a walk at dusk and you could gaze up at the beautiful night sky, seeing the Milky Way. She saw a shooting star. I thought I saw one, but said it appeared to be going slow and in a straight line. That's when she told me it was a satellite...

Good info on the South Llano River State Park. Thanks.

I'm guessing it's not too crowded either.

(& fwiw.....I think it's "Garner" SP.....& i believe that "Emma Long" is a City Park, not a SP....actually was called "City Park" before being re-named .)

If you like climbing around on rocks, try these two very different state parks located in different parts of the state:

Enchanted Rock

Hueco Tanks
