Apparently we've only 3 wonderful choices for broadband here:

Cablelynx Cable internet
AT&T (Southwestern Bell) DSL
Clear"something" (can't remember the name) wireless

Cablelynx is awful. Right now I have AT&T DSL and I have not been satisfied with it, I get constant disconnects and at times my speed is throttled.

My question is, do you have AT&T DSL service? If so, how is it for you? Is there any other better options here or are we truly blessed with this cornucopia of choices we get here in the south?

Have never had a problem with cablelynx. Even ran my son's super high speed gaming computer at one time.

Ran it? You mean he played games online? My boyfriend had issues with it constantly, from inconsistent speeds to daily downtime. His internet service was down for a week once.

I had AT&T's DSL, but got rid of it. After we got it, we found out that the signal strength depends on what part of town you live in. We apparently live in the slowest part of town.... in the Wildwood neighborhood. So... I switched to cablelynx. It's faster, but nothing compared to what I had in Lubbock, TX and Louisville, KY. I HATE the cable service we get here! We have paid extra for the HD channels and half the time the signal can't keep up and we get messed up picture and sound. When I call them about it.... they just restart the cable box... and a day later we are back to square one. This town seriously needs a decent cable company (and grocery store.... but I won't get started on that one.)

All I know is he played the online games "way too much" while he was home the year after college. Performed all other online functions with no problems. It could be where we live, could've been the quality of his computer, or maybe a combination of both. There was never an issue with speed, memory, video, downloads, etc.

My PC is outdated, but I have no problems.

ClearWire is the other option. It doesn't cover my area, so I do not know much about it. Have heard other people say it works very well though.

I completely agree with you on both.

It may be the "area" of town you live in. In nearby Tyler, I have had AT & T DSL for about three years, no, I mean, no problems and plenty fast.
