@ TOkidd

I agree with you that the need for affordable housing is there but at the same time look at these people who are dweling in these units - they are carrying them either through a mortgage or rent. what makes u so sure we have peaked and the whole thing wont repeat? I dont tink anyone can say with such for certainty! People make lifestyle choices and DT living is desirable for these people. Actually I think that major gentrification has occured so the incomes of those carrying these condos are higher than your typical torontonian. 2000 a month for a mortgage with two incomes pulling in over 70g's or more isnt too much. The avg income of someone living in older t.o is more than your avg torontonian minus homeless and those living in commie blocks.

Seriously though are you ok?

Of course not and how you link the two together is beyond me. I think it is more of a statement of where your head is than mine. Plus I don't have the word 'freak' in my name.
Obviously I was being flippant; no one in their right mind woyld compare condo towers with child porn. The subtext is "Is demand always king?" "Should we really let market forces dictate city planning?"

lol - well the market is supporting our growth better than our Politicians wouldn't you say? They are also supporting the location(s) in which people want to live so shall we attack these Developers for responding..

I say where we are failing is supportive infrastructure and transit - not keeping pace with the densification and general growth of our city. Where do you think the bulk of all our new Condo's are being erected - bingo - where there is better transit options. We have become a large city with mid sized city mentality when it comes to these issues and collectively as a populace we haven't done much to force our politicians to DO MORE. Everybody outside of Toronto hates Toronto and thus god forbid any funding to support the economic heart of a Province and to some degree a country be funneled into things that matter... Otherwise we would have a subway system like NYC, London, Paris, Madrid which sprout all all over supporting mid-rise density throughout.... but we don't... So attacking Developers isn't the answer and as much as nice architecture - which is a subjective matter, is asthetically important to many, I say we have much bigger fish to fry. Sure Developers are in it to make a buck - but they are also filling a void that others who should be helping to fill are not.

Just remember 3 million more Torontonians in the GTA in the next 23 years. We have to think vertically more than horizontally and some contend we have already sprawled out and destroyed some valuable farmland (which I wouldn't be surprised about) until goverment intervened and said NO more Sprawl.. mixed used nabe's are great and I agree there is room for more of it but we ARE going to have to maintain vertical developments combined with these mixed use nabe's to accomodate the growth! Suburban Toronto doesn't just house residential nabe's - it also houses considerable industry that must be protected to maintain economic prosperity by keeping them in the GTA - so there aren't that many opportunaties unless you consider razing low density nabe's. So, I don't think just mid-rise densification of increasingly limited swath's of land will do! You are absolutely going to have to pair it with vertical development which isn't the evil some make it out to be! Throw in some meaningful mass transit solutions and now we are cooking.

Regardless, i'm sorry but who are you or anyone to tell people where they want to live or in what type of dwellings? I have plenty of friends who live in DT Condo's and quite frankly, they are smart people with good jobs who like their homes. If they choose to live in them what is the problem? Are people afraid of heights?

Anyway talking about child porn isn't going to solve our municipal problems!

Agreed about food trucks as they relate to world class - so many other criteria that mean something... but yeah if we are lagging it is in that area... in other words - won't lose ANY sleep over it.
Actually...I have to say, now that the weather isnt AS bad as it was when this thread started up, I now know there are quite a few food trucks all over the city, so there is some progress...the other day I was at one that was offering Lobster Rolls and Octopuss Taco's!!...

those pathetic food trucks sell nothing but generic sausages, fries and burgers.
For christ's sake, why all food trucks have to be about sausages fries and burgers? Don't people find it extremely boring??
