I don't know how far I could push the analogy, but when Intel and Apple started in the area south of San Francisco, it was pretty conveniently located. Near Big Sur. Probably with real estate that wasn't over priced being too far of a commute to San Francisco. I remember driving through Silicon Valley in the 50's. It was pretty scenic back then. I5 was still a future project. Now of course, it is more a magnet than an ideal place to live.
