Toronto subway system is bigger and I love the Streetcars, but I found the ticketing system to be outdated last time I was there. I understand that is changing soon though.
Vancouver is getting COMPASS cards, much like OYSTER in London. Vancouver's SKYTRAIn system is growing with the new Evergreen Line coming and of course the SEABUS is a great cheap ride to see the city as well.
Which is better? Vancouver seems to serve it's area better than Toronto. People complain everywhere but most seem fairly happy with the transit in Vancouver. It's the outlying areas, like Langley, which may feel under served.

changing soon? You mean the pathetic Presto system which was discussed in 2006 and still is not implemented 8 years later? And it costs $700M.
Cities in developing countries do better than that.
by the way, Toronto being 3X vancouver's size, has a subway system of the same length. It is not bigger.
The streetcars, you mean those slow moving trams which stop every 100 meters?

Most of the Skytrain doesn't cover downtown. There are 4 stations on the Expo line and 3 on the Canada Line.
Toronto's subway has 13 stations in the U bend alone.
If we are talking about the whole lower mainland, then Toronto and Vancouver's systems are closer in length, but Vancouver system maxes out a 4 cars per train, usually 2. Toronto maxes out a 6.
Also Vancouvers system only has 298 cars versus Toronto's 706. So yes I'd say Toronto's is larger.
I admit I only use the streetcars as a tourist getting around, but they did the job and reminded me of the streetcars that are popular in Europe. The add a certain look to Toronto.
Sigh, Toronto transit. It's sad considering it's 2014.
It's not horrible, but it's well below par. We're still in the 90's, man. Toronto deserves better.
And the comparison is a bit daft. Toronto and Vancouver are not on the same level when it comes to transit needs.
I think it quite fair to compare any transit system to another. I don't think the question is intended to mean that they are the same, but intended to find out which system better suits it's customers.
In that context, I chose Vancouver.

Good point.
Let's compare an important aspect of public transit: connectivity from the airport to downtown.
Vancouver
Direct train line for YVR, Vancouver, which makes things easy!
The Canada Line is Vancouver’s new rapid transit rail link connecting YVR to downtown Vancouver in 26 minutes and to downtown Richmond in 18 minutes. It’s a fast and easy way to get to the city centres. You can conveniently access trains from both the International and Domestic Terminals.
Toronto
Pearson Intl Airport to downtown?
Public transit via buses and trains! Will take over an hour!
There are shuttle buses (Go Bus). Most people take a cab. It is so complicated that people have written articles about it. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g1...n.Airport.html
