I am planning to relocate from London (UK) to Toronto and I am looking for the best schools, especially in science area. I was looking for the right school but I am completely lost. Any tips from insiders will be much appreciated. Any hotbeds there?
Most people in Canada choose a house that they like, in a nice neighbourhood that they can afford to buy into .
Then they find out what schools are in their neighbourhood. And check the individual school's rating. The rating is a score out of a possible 10. The lower the score the lower the achievement of the students at that school. In Toronto, you have a choice between the public school boards, and the private schools, which have annual costs that are much, much higher.
In general, if you buy a house in a middle class area, the school won't be a dump. If you buy in a low income area, the school will be less desirable.
My best advice is to totally forget about the UK school system. If you are serious about living in Canada, you need to look ahead, not behind you. The British mania about the "best school ' is not nearly as deep here. Given that Toronto is the largest city in Canada, the choice of where to buy a house is vast.
