No, a well maintained echo, and a well maintained yaris have worked out great for you. Both were made by Toyota. Also the echo has to have been one of the most uninspiring cars to ever drive.
Just because 2 models have done well doesn't mean all FARs from the manufacturer are perfect.
I have a 12 year old GM car with well over 100k miles. Only normal wear and tear items put into it. Does that mean all GM vehicles are reliable? No it just means the 3800 which has been pretty damned good teamed with the reliable 5-speed has had relatively few problems.
Maybe when Toyota brings back a fast RWD couple/sedan (Scion's 200hp FR-S doesn't count) , then I'll be interested. I still laugh when I see their NASCAR cars with TOYOTA CAMRY on the front....ROFL.
Not so much Toyota, but the politicians who spent state taxpayer money to build free plants for Toyota. Good-ol' corporate socialism at work!
Hey, wait a minute; I thought every automaker except GM and Chrysler played by the rules!
You'd prefer instead various auto manufacturers had not built plants in the USA because perhaps a paltry amount of your precious tax dollars went into enticing the companies to expand into the USA?
What do you think was your personal sacrifice in taxes to employ thousands of fellow Americans,? $2.?, $5.?,what ever monies you claim were spent sounds like money well spent to me..
Some were talking trash when Toyota had its issues with the unintended acceleration problems, and how they were finished. I told many this was a temporary thing. I said they'd be back, and they are!! Their philosophy is very UnAmerican (Speaking of how they do business and run their company). I knew it wouldn't be long before they claim number one spot worldwide! They did it in less time than I thought. The numbers don't lie.
For those having a fit. GET OVER IT!! It's just business.
Lots of Asians living in the US buy Japanese cars, not many buy American.
That's the difference.
Theres no doubt Toyota is going through a phase of blandness in its R&D Dept but things like this happen to all car makers on cyclical basis, looking at some of Toyotas future concept cars has me thinking they'll soon turn it around. toyota concepts cars - Google Search
Had a Toyota. Interior was the cheapest I've ever owned but held up well, it was lightweight and got good mileage but the consequence was the exterior was pretty flimsy. Body & paint integrity weren't very good. The engine was small & buzzy, the seats were uncomfortable for prolonged highway driving, the driving experience wasn't very inspiring but it handled pretty well, good city car, rough riding though.
However over 150k miles it never gave us a single problem, nothing ever went out on it, only put maintenance into it. I sold it on the street for double what trade-in would've been, still good resale value. Overall I'd say it was a good little car, a cheap but ultra-reliable appliance and nothing more.

They have a lot of great designs in Japan over all. A stroll through Toyota City in Odaiba really puts things into perspective. I enjoy going there every time I visit Japan.
I would certainly think so;as toyota is likely to sell as many of the Prius C has they can make with them starting at <19k.
