How many miles do you have on your Tacoma? I knew one guy who had 400,000 on his! I have a 1999 with 250,000 miles; it's an extended cab and a 4-cylinder.

Happy Trails,

A few years ago, I worked with a guy who had a '96 Taco and he had 415,000 on it. He was commuting 90 miles one way from Western MD to Baltimore. No problems whatsoever, according to him, besides typical items such as replacing his clutch, timing belt, etc. Those things are virtually indestructible.

However, I also have an uncle who drove his late 80s Nissan Hardbody truck up to about 370,000 before something happened and he decided to get rid of it. All I can remember is that, at a certain point, he lost 1st gear and had to start in 2nd. Finally it just broke down, but man, what a beast!

I have a 2003 Tacoma bought new. It has 106k on it and runs great. The only thing I have done to it is normal stuff. Brakes and tires. Runs like new. My brother has a 96 Toyota pickup with 245k on it and just had a clutch installed in it. Never had any major problems.

I had a '97 but I sold it 10 years ago with only 110,000 miles. I currently have a '13 but it doesn't even have 10,000 miles on it yet. The resale on these trucks is crazy, a new one is 30k and a used one with 100,000 miles is still 20k. I hope to be able to give this truck to my son when he starts driving. He's only 7 now, so it will probably have around 120k miles by the time he's ready for it.

My friend had one over 300k. The frame rusted and his Tacoma split in half, but the engine was still running!

2000 Taco here. Just turned 194K.

Nothing done to it but normal maintenance. It'll run forever.

Has anyone purchased a newer 4 cylinder? I have been waiting for the expected major upgrade that had been rumored for 2014 in hopes of some better mpg but it didn't come to be. I need a pickup and I like the size of a regular cab, standard bed tacoma. I'm interested in a 4 cylinder standard shift.

I have a 2014 4WD regular cab automatic 4 cylinder. I doubt that any upgrades will improve gas mileage. There is a rumor that Toyota will discontinue the regular cab Tacoma after 2014. That is why I bought mine as soon as one was available locally. They also had a 2013 regular cab 4WD manual on the lot.
