I am a female, a widow, who has been travelling to Florida a lot. I live in the East Coast. I own a Toyota Corola Sports, 2010, with 63,000 miles on it. This is my six Toyota, and they have never left me behind. I also have a Toyota SUV Limited Edition 1998, with 25,000 miles, but I like to use the smaller one on my trips, because I feel more comfortable on the road, and for gas mileage.
Now, my son thinks that I should get rid of the 2010, and get a new car, because he fears that the car is getting too old, for my long trips. It is in excellent condition.
Do you think that a 2010 Toyota car with 63,000 miles is too old, for a women to drive long-distance? Thank you,
Only 63K? It's fine, just keep up with maintenance. I will say that rubber parts like the serpentine belt may need to be looked at since age does take a toll on those types of parts.
No, it is far from too old. Age has nothing to do with reliability. How it's cared for is more important. Under 100K it has plenty of life. Keep running it.
Does your son drive this car? as i was thinking maybe he wants a newer car .A 2010 Toyota with 60K is far from old and will give you many more years of reliable and economical service.

If your son thinks your car is too old, I wonder what he'd think about mine! A 1996 Buick with 220,000 miles. I drove it across the country once when I moved from the west to east coast (I was then a single female). If your car is in great condition, don't get rid of it!!
The Corolla has been a pretty reliable platform for the Toyota brand. At 63,000 miles, properly maintained, it's still in its prime. The value of the car, trade in, is not much so if you like it, keep driving it. Might have the dealer or shop go over it before leaving on one of the long trips just to make sure there isn't something wrong that you're not aware of. The 1.8 engine has a timing chain so you don't have to worry about a breaking timing belt. I wouldn't bother with buying a new car. You might end up buying a car you hate.
Summer before last we took my 2006 BMW 525 with 120K miles across the country, no issues at all. Considering that people are afraid of BMW's and consider them to be fragile and Toyotas are considered bulletproof, your car is fine. Remember, new cars are not immune to mechanical failure either.
63k? Change the coolant, change the trans fluid, change the brake fluid. Repeat in another 60k or so. Then take $50 out of whatever you would have paid for a new car and treat yourself to a really nice dinner; keep the rest in the bank. Maybe go out on a nice vacation too.
