My car was bought new and always serviced by myself. 3000 mile oil and filter changes and 30,000 manual transmission oil changes and antifreeze changes. Air Cleaner filters were changed once a year. The car is a Florida car so lucky for me no rust. I changed the struts front and rear at 200,000 and both the VVT solenoid and it's filter at around the same time. After having changed those items the car ran and felt like new again. Three more items I changed which were important and inexpensive were: the valve cover gasket (while putting in the second set of plugs at 200,000 plus miles), the oil pan gasket at 150,000 (oil light came on), see earlier post (oil sludge mystery) and the A/C clutch relay. All told it has been a great car, which has never failed to start or get our family to our destination safely. If you are a D.I.Y. person this car is more then budget friendly. Same clutch at 230,000 plus miles but I drive as if I had an egg between my feet and the pedals. (If you break the egg you have a lot to learn about safe driving). Alternator and starter were also changed at 200,000 miles just as a preventive maintenance measure as was the water pump. Combined MPG has never been less then 34 MPG and the Highway MPG has never less then 38 MPG. All told the cost of additional maintenance over the years has been much less then the tax that would been added to a new car so I have been fortunate. 2004 Toyota Corolla it has been a great car and still drives like new, the interior is still close to new looking. If I had to do it over again I would have taken better care of the exterior paint by waxing the car once a year but the car just turned 16 so I can't complain about fading. Bought another new one in 2015 and I see this car having 300,000 trouble free miles in it's future also. Most people will agree when I say a cars longevity is all about on time maintenance and driving like you want the car to last a while.

Once a year car waxes in the south would do no good for your paint job. 4 times a year and your car would still be shining. My 2010 gets waxed 4 times a year and it still shines as does my 92 4Runner but that one is now a garage queen so that helps.

I appreciate the response, your 92 4 Runner speaks volumes about how to take care of a cars finish. I will be working a little more on my cars exterior in the future. Thanks.
I've owned Toyotas since 1975. Had a 1988 FJ62 Land Cruiser for 18 years (wife's DD). Our 2000 Tundra was purchased Labor Day, 1999. First non-maintenance repair this year, rat damage to wiring.
Bought a 2019 Land Cruiser on Halloween. Declined the offer of a non-Toyota extended warranty (price came down 3 times in spiel). Peace of Mind is owning a Toyota; & not wondering IF I'll ever make a claim against a fine-print extended warranty.

Thanks for the reply, Your 40 plus years of owning Toyota's says it all. I am also aware of your first non maintenance repair being an issue in today's Automobiles worldwide. In another life I was an industrial electrician and computer tech. So an apocalypse of rat nest builders could mean a resurrection of my career. (But I think the chances are slim to none.) One thing is for sure "Toyota makes a good car"

You treated yourself quite nicely on Halloween in as long as you weren't tricked into purchasing it as it's a pricey purchase.
