While planning a pilgrimage tour, what things should be kept in mind?
First and foremost, research about the place completely. It can be done on internet or ask your friends and relatives. You can find lots of useful information on sites such as Yatra2Yatra: A Hindu Pilgrimage Book.
Go during a Kumbh Mela. I pilgrimaged in Mumbai and UP. But I would say u have to be extremely careful. U could easily get a horrible fever and be in a remote area and not get treated. No man is to tough not to fear their safety. U also have to be careful for ur goods and bandits. Pilgrimages on foot are very hard and they're suppose to be. So when u reach ur destination or top of a hill, u feel like u really had to work and starve to get their. Hopefully the journal is fulfilling in itself. Of course u want all ur shots first. Money. Clothes for extreme climate. Access to water. A trustworthy friend. A prepaid with good coverage. A map. A travel book about the local area. No more than 2 outfits. Cash but hidden. A lighter. Sunscreen. Multi-purpose medicine. A pen. Females should dress covered up. Credit card. Train schedules and reservations because they need to be purchased in advance for the good ones. A good knife. Keep an eye on your stuff or it'll poof. Many socks.
