I imagine they will start rolling out very soon. It's a labor intensive and expensive process. It will take a long time before all the planes are converted. My guess is the MD80 will never see the new paint they are retiring them as they receive new replacement planes.
The classic livery was an Italian designed masterpiece and a classic. The new livery is an abomination- a hodgepodge of the ugly and the cliche. Unoriginal, garish and greyhound bus-esque. Like a once graceful- but now old and senile diva wearing her housecoat out in public before she takes to the stage in the sky. AA's days are numbered and she will not be going out in style.
I think the new paint scheme is awful. It's basically just boring, bland gray all the way to the tail. The old livery is so much more attractive and their current logo is an internationally recognized symbol of their brand. I can't believe their marketing department ever approved this grotesque new livery.
I'm on the inside of the plane. Seriously, I could care less what color the outside is painted. I'm not going to be hanging it on the wall at home.
