1. I run and I ran three places--Roosevelt Island, Central Park and Brooklyn Bridge. I found the Bridge kinda meh but the other two were great. In terms of landmarks or touristy places, I enjoyed the markets like Eataly and Chelsea Market.

2. I don't know what Man vs. Food is. Is that a show that features really large meals? If so, I'll say get a sundae at Max Brenner--Chocolate by the Bald Man. I also really enjoyed the burgers at Burger Shak. The sandwiches at Zabar's were good too.

3. I stayed at the Holiday Inn near Chinatown/Little Italy. I found it both affordable and nice.

4. Roosevelt Island (the tram is a neat touch).

Katz deli on Houston street is pretty cool and can easily be combined with a walk down mulberry street, which is where little Italy is. Renting the citi bikes and going along the west side highway is very nice.

I'd also explore some of the back roads in soho and meatpacking district. Walking the skyline in meatpacking is great.

Tips for visiting NYC

All good tips so far. I would add 'watch your wallet/purse' it's very crowded in NYC, especially all the tourist spots. You don't want to ruin your time here having been a pickpocket subject.

This thread was started in March so perhaps the person has already visited NYC. But for what it's worth I will comment anyway. I would skip paying the large price they charge for the hop on and hop of busses and just take the city buses. We prefered this over the subway as you are above ground and they run often. Manhattan should not be visited without seeing a Broadway Show. In less than a half hour's wait we were able to secure tickets to "Phantom" and were delighted to get 7th row center seats. This was done at TKTS one morning for an afternoon show. Even if you are not a theater buff a Broadway Show is memorable. A couple of hours at the Metropolitan Musem is SO worth it and then you can relax in Central Park. The day we went to the show we ate at Langan's on W. 47th Street. Had a great dinner there at a reasonable price. Another place we had dinner on a different trip was
"Avra", I think that was in the East 50's. Hope the originater of this thread will stop back and tell us what they did and how they enjoyed it.

sorry I am late visiting your post. In case you haven't made your trip yet. here's my opinion in your order.
1. all of the above is nice. I would exclude madison square garden unless you are going to a show.
I would add madame tussands in time square and 125th street in harlem
2. BBQ's in time square for the biggest and tastiest daquries/margaritas, Jackon holes for gigantic
burgers and of course ny famous hot dogs stands.
3. Manhattan hotels are very expensive. it would be cheaper to stay in a neighboring borough like
Queens or brooklyn and travel via subway.
4. as far as romance you can do a horse & carriage ride through central park, go to china town and
go to Eden spa;you won't be disappointed.
