Thailand is cheap as dirt and has a good infrastructure so internet access won't be much of an issue. Quite a lot to see in the country and it's easy enough to get around. You could rent a small villa on a resort island for not much money.
3-4 months will allow you to see much of SE Asia so you wouldn't have to restrict yourself to Thailand. We loved Malaysian Borneo and Vietnam was quite interesting. Indonesia is a mixed bag, Bali has the infrastructure for working remotely but it's very developed and overrated. The rest of Indonesia is much more interesting but depending on where you go the internet access isn't reliable and there's more hassles to day to day travel or living that may not appeal to you.

You can do Australian cheap if you have people you know you can stay with, or can get cheap short term accommodation (try gumtree for that, it's great). I'm currently renting out my room in inner Melbourne for $100 a week. Plus, you can do a lot of cooking to save money on eating out.
Thailand is cheap in general BUT it can be overpriced in touristy places around Bangkok and Patong, Pattaya, which I would avoid. Go somewhere quieter IME. Bali might be nice, you can spend time between Ubud, Seminyak, Kuta, Denpasar and the more quiet places. Lombok too, although watch out for mosquito-borne diseases.
Don't forget Malaysia, as I mentioned, including Malaysian Borneo/East Malaysia. Vietnam is interesting but I feel Thailand and Malaysia is more interesting, I prefer the food there, more variety, more westernised.
