I have an acquaintance that is a timeshare salesperson that is going to see if they can get me their employee discount to stay in a condo that's on one of the properties of the company they sell for. Now should I expect to be hassled into purchasing a timeshare? Anyone on here sell timeshares? Thanks!

The only reason they allow non-owners to stay is to they can make a pitch.

So yes, undoubtedly, you can expect to be hassled.

You can probably stay for nearly the same money if you shop carefully on one of the travel websites. It really comes down to what your time and annoyance is worth.

That's too bad.
When you consider vacations... think motels and such.

Don't buy a timeshare, they are an expensive waste of money. We have had one for years. I have one that needs to be used up before it expires, I'm going to Arizona in April, guess what? I can't use my timeshare because there is no availability. I now have forfeited it and have to find a rental unit. Don't get suckered into anything.

Some deals are better than others. Hilton has a vacation ownership plan that gives you a set number of 'points' to use each year, equivalent to about 2-3 weeks if I'm not mistaken, and you can basically use them at any Hilton property worldwide for stays. I believe you can also roll over unused points and also 'borrow' up to a years worth of points forward. So, it all depends on how you want to use it.

Personally, I'd rather not own a timeshare. If I want to go on vacation, I like the flexibility of not having to stay at one particular hotel chain if there are hotels that better suit my needs. But, it may work for you.

If a time share salesman is offering you a special deal, you will probably have to sit through a sales presentation.

There is a nice timeshare near where I live and they do rent out the units that are not being used by the shareholders. Not every unit is going to be full 365 days a year with share holders.

The only possible use for a timeshare would be if you could get one with a guaranteed week for an established event where hotel rooms are always booked solid.

Any timeshare I've ever looked at the annual fee is about the same as what it would cost you to rent a motel room in the area.

Many (most?) timeshare places will offer you free - not discounted - nights in exchange for listening to their spiel and being hassled. I question how much of a 'favor' your friend is offering.
