I use several travel and pricing sites when booing my factions, because different ones are good for different things. I've not used smartours though.

I know this is outside of the bounds of what you asked and is really just unsolicited advice? But do you think your son might prefer to plan his own honeymoon and then you can just help him pay for it? It's a pretty big milestone and a lot on your shoulders if they end up not enjoying it too much. Thats, said I know some people are just poor planners in which case you're doing them both a big favor by stepping in.

In any case, make sure they're up for going to any of those places first. I looked at international, exotic vacations for my honeymoon as well, because it seemed like a great reason to really splurge and go someplace different... But my wife-to-be talked sense in to me and reminded me that we would want to honeymoon, not adventure. So we ended up choosing two weeks in Kauai instead and had the trip of our lifetimes together. Although we have been to more 'exotic' places since, we have never enjoyed any experience as much as we enjoyed the South Pacific for those two weeks. The honeymooning itself had a lot to do wight that of course. But the sun, sea, lush surroundings and our immaculate 2 bedroom condo rental meant our chances for fully enjoying our honeymoon were relatively high. And the fact that it was a very tourist-friendly, tropical 'paradise' within the 50 US meant that our chances for the un-fun kind of adventures to occur were relatively low.

Isn't boring good on a honeymoon? Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't looking for something challenging or educational on my honeymoon.

Exactly. That's why we chose the Big Island of Hawaii.

What about a cruise? We did a 10 day Med cruise for our honeymoon last year. Unpacked once, saw sone incredible sights and sites in Italy, Greece and Turkey, had two full days at sea to relax, and every detail was taken care of.

I have had great success with Agoda and Hotels.com for international bookings. Their reviews and prices are very helpful. The Agoda Customer service has been superb at ironing out a couple snafu's.

Thank you all!!! Great tips!

BTW: of course I will ask my son his opinion! It's their honeymoon, not mine It will be his decision, and my money (wedding gift?). Just want to give him more/different ideas.
They know each other well, and are living together for a while now. They travel. I noticed that they prefer "adventure" over "leisure", so I am looking at many options.

I hope you'll also ask if they would prefer the funds put towards the cost of a home, or maybe the wedding, or paying off student loans, etc. Not nearly as romantic, but far more practical.
