Well since you're all for charging people extra, just pay for one of the trusted traveler programs and you don't have to take off your shoes or belt
I would add to this... If you are wearing boots with a zipper, steel toe, or heavy steel shank in the sole, I strongly suggest they come off. Pre-Check does not exempt one from pat downs if they set off the metal detector.
The airlines really need to do something. Today I was stuck next to a guy spilling into my seat. Every time he moved he was squishing me. I couldn't move, and had to sit all the way to the left of my seat. I have so many knots in my back it is crazy.
I once flew from Calif to Georgia beside a large person. I couldn't get out of my seat and neither could he. The worst part was about half way thru the flight he apparently messed in his pants. The smell was pretty bad.
I don't think there is a clear cut and fair way to solve this problem. When do you say, buy an extra seat or how do we judge what is too large for a single seat and what about the guy who isn't overweight but happened to be large, I mean in height. He is probably going to take up more room. Is it fair to ask him to pay more? I think many of us have been positioned next to a large person, it is a miserable ride, but only in the most extreme cases can much be done about it. BTW, yes, the budget lines usually do have smaller seats,so do the regional jets, compared to the larger planes. maybe the answer is "anyone who needs an extender has to pay for an extra seat" I just don't think there is an answer.
How do we judge what is too large for a single seat? How about this: If a passenger spills out of one seat, and into the next, s/he needs two seats.
I don't fly United, I'm CP on US (soon to be EXP on AA) so I'm still getting them.
Don't you get 500 mile stickers or something along those lines to use?
No. I am Plat on UA and Plat on AA but AA sux on the West Coast, so I fly a lot of UA. UA have this system of complimentary upgrades, based on Mileage Plus level. Thing is UA keep selling F F upgrades to no status passengers, so complimentary upgrades are almost non-existent, even to Global Services (Concierge Key Equivalent) and 1K's (EXP Equivalent).
