One night on the ferry Barcelona-Ibiza
and then maybe 12 hours sailing off French Atlantic coast
made a lot of shorter ferry trips (Newhaven - Dieppe, Mass Mainland-Marthas' vineyard, NL Mainland-Texel island, Venice-****, Croatia-on hydrofoil-, Madeira-Porto Santo, Malaga-Tangier, Thailand mainland-Koh Lanta, in the Philippines). Never longer than a couple of hours .
What is the longest you have ever been aboard a ship or boat, without going ashore?
Several days when I went on Mediterranean trip on cargo ship , and when I went on north Africa trip, again on cargo ship. (Love cargo ships, and would never go on any of the humongous/obnoxious cruise ships)
The trips were several weeks long, but I don't remember the exact number of days between the stops.

They work AND travel. Visiting foreign ports of call is actually a big recruiting tool for the navy. What you think the navy builds ships so that they stay in dock for 6 months? Of course they travel.
You remember the cynical saying:
