Which region do you prefer to go if traveling with kids? And tell me why. My head is spinning after countless hours on TripAdvisor trying to decide between two regions for my family of 4.

Caribbean for sure. The food is better, the water (drinking and beach) is better and the people are better.

You have so many options....what are you looking for? Resort? Hotel?

What sort of activities and they (or you) inclined toward ?
What time of the year are you going?
What ages are the kids?
How well behaved are they?

But on the face... either choice is as good/bad as any other sit on the beach spot.
So unless you're talking mid winter... I'd say drive down to Cape May.

USVI - rent a house on St. John. Tons to do, no passport needed and you'll have room to cook and spread out. Tons to do for free or cheap too!

The US Virgin Islands has a MUCH higher crime rate than ANY part of the US mainland.

I like Little Dix Bay on the British VI.

But since they have been closed for reno, we've enjoyed the Barcelo Maya Palace south of Cancun.

The kids LOVE it and it has that crystal clear quiet Caribbean water that you don't see farther north near Cancun.

Mexico all day. You can get a great resort experience and a lot of cultural/active things to do as well. Mexico is insanely cheap right now as well.

The answer would really depend on the ages and interests of the kids. I love Jamaica and have enjoyed it with my Son as he grew up. For a more quiet relaxed vacation I would head to Exuma ( A Bahama out island)

Yeah you definitely will not get a consensus here to make your decision any easier, unfortunately. Each offers unique and diverse mixes of food, people, activities and culture which may or may not appeal to your family. Mexico is a very easy destination to reach from anywhere in the US and factor in the great exchange rate right now and your dollar will go a little further. An all-inclusive would be appealing as a parent as the last thing I know I want to do is start cooking while on vacation or worrying about going to the store. So whether that all-inclusive is in the Caribbean or Mexico would be up to you. Many of those also offer plenty of activities for kids plus your water sports the entire family can enjoy.

We just returned from a trip down to Hyatt Ziva in Cancun back in January and it was wonderful. On this particular trip it was just me and the lady but I could easily see taking my 9yo son there as it had so many things to do and the beaches, food and people were all wonderful. That's a specific place but there's many out there that could fit your needs/budget.

Good luck!
