Even if they did not have any travel warnings, there is not a single country on that list that I would go to even if I won a free trip there with the exception of the Philippines.
If I won a free trip to Israel I'd be on the next plane.
I stay out of places with a travel warning, other than that I'm open for going quite a few places. A lot of the ones on this list have a high percentage because lots of Americans go there. I don't put much credence into this article at all.
Whole-heartedly agree; Mexico and the Philippines rank higher-then-expected because in part, lots of Americans go there. Thailand's ranking is probably affected by "sex tourism". And the Islamic countries are skewed because there's a wide distance between modern, but small emirates like Bahrain and Qatar, and sinkholes like Somalia or places with a lot of hostility.
This is one where you simply have to do your research and use your judgement; and there's an impressionable minority within that irrational critter called "the public" who are scared to death of that.

In general, a violent death abroad is extremely unlikely. Between 2009 and 2013, 1,151 Americans - out of a population of 316 million - were killed abroad. For comparison, 15,809 homicides occurred in the U.S. in 2014 alone.
Also, per capita rates make Pakistan and Thailand number 1 and 2, Mexico dropping to #10.
Nope. Without a doubt more Americans are killed in the good ol USA vs being tourists anywhere else
I'm an idiot and totally misunderstood what was a very simple post. My apologies for the tinfoil hat comment.
