16X14X8? Won't work as personal item on United (boo, hiss) 17X10X9 and not on Allegiant 16X15X7 so best I can see (this week) is a bag not larger than 16X10X7 to be sure as a personal item bag for those airlines that specify a limited size. Delta, Alaskan, Hawaiian are just a few that don't even specify size at all for the 'personal item'.

Good to know. Don't fly those airlines but good to know. I fly mostly American and frontier and delta and JetBlue. All good.
I would never fly united but I'm sure they would let it pass since it's only 2 linear inches over Then again it's united. Maybe not.
The allegiance measurements match my bag's. 38 linear inches

I'm talking about the free personal item, the free item that must fit under seat.

What's the difference? You can put a carry on under a seat if it fits.

Ha, my husband has this bag. He really likes it and used it extensively when he was traveling for residency interviews. He got it as a gift from his parents--his father travels constantly for short 1-3 trips and has it too.

I fly Allegiant all the time between Asheville and Fort Lauderdale and use a black leather backpack as my personal item and have never been stopped.

HAHA...the expression threw me off so much I had to look it up and then when I saw the description it was like why are we discussing "bags for mushroom cultivation and spawn production"?

Yes backpacks are great, as long as they are small! Not exactly practical for everyone though.
