Off season you would have your pick of the litter and able to get good deals. I would look into Laguna Beach and Newport Beach in OC. If you want to be in LA, I would do Malibu or Santa Monica (would be busier though). In San Diego, I would probably do La Jolla or Coronado.

I'm a young, female solo traveler. I've been to a number of islands. Really nothing in particular especially since December is a very busy time in Hawaii.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll save Indonesia and Thailand for when I have a couple of weeks free. I have a lot of research to do!

Bali is an interesting destination but the beaches are ugly and pathetic, full of dirty trash, drunk tourists and aggressive vendors
