Driving our Pick-up and I know I-80 will work for most of the way. We will have at least 2 weeks to get to New Hampshire.

I really want to avoid Chicago, but I would like to go over Lake Erie and then drop down into New Hampshire/Vermont. I am looking for some adventure along the way. Any Suggestions.
We will be traveling mid September...…

Thanks LeeB

Stay off the Interstates. You only need to make 200 miles a day, there's no need to use roads on which you can do that before breakfast.

A hundred people will suggest a hundred different adventures, and you'll hate 95 of them. Skip the ones that involve meeting women at truck stops.

Get a paper road atlas and look for places that have interesting sounding names. Go through them. Eat breakfast where local farmers do. Stop at yard sales. If you happen to be in rural Nebraska on a Friday night, go to a HS football game.

If you mean "north of Lake Erie", cross into Canada on a ferry on the Detroit River, at Marine City or Algonac. Funky and hassle-free.

Chicago itself is not so bad, but the Indiana state line is a huge bottleneck.

Have fun. Did I mention stay off the interstates?

Get over it. Map LINK around (by way of Peoria and Columbus to Akron)

How much extra time can you allot for the trip?
iow... how far from the trip route can you wander in search of adventure?

The trailer is my only concern with 'adventuring'.
PITA to deal with and then to worry about being secure.
