Just called some banks today, as they don't have foreign cash at the branches, so if I order the CAD bill, they charge from $7.50-$20.00 for bank services/shipping, and the rate exchange is less than the market (for example: on Oanda, 500 USD equals 651 CAD but one bank told me it's only 618 CAD).
Just go to an ATM in Canada with your US bank card, and withdraw what you need. No shipping, no bs fees, you'll just get pinged the exchange rate, and if you find a machine in-network you won't even have the ATM fee.
Yep. I have a no-fee Capital One 1 1/2% cash back card in my wallet I only use for international purchases.
I just suck it up and pay my bank's foreign ATM fee to get cash. I do almost everything with my credit card but you always run into those circumstances where you need cash. I'm in Canada often enough that I pull out a few hundred bucks and that might last for 2 or 3 trips. I do the same thing in Europe and the UK. I pull out a bunch of cash in one transaction and it usually lasts several trips, or at least pays for things the first couple days I'm there and haven't been to a bank ATM machine yet.
