Thank you, but I don't plan to travel throughout Europe (other than to Italy (and that may not happen).
My main travel interests includes North, West, South and East Africa and parts of the Middle East. I'd also love to travel to India, China, Japan and Turkey.
I find the video footage of Moscow and St Petersburg fascinating as well, but I'd never have the courage to travel over there.
While I agree with the message (I get laughed at in France for being obviously American, and I'm of French descent), I don't know if I would use the words of literally the whitest white man ever to convey to a person of color that everything is fine. Steves also has a very basic manner of travel. Outside of his visit to Tehran (and of course, his vanilla commentary on the topic in general), I'm pretty meh on the rest. He generally goes to the the most touristy places available to him where most people will be fine to exist. There are nuances that we as white people don't understand, so I am glad that Steves recommends talking to other people of your same ethnicity to find out more, rendering the article sort of useless in a sense.
TL;DR: Steves lends credence to additional uncomfortability for those of color, recommends talking to others of similar color.
It is not against the law for women to travel alone in Saudi, but I believe it's still largely embedded into the culture, that women shouldn't travel without a male "guardian."

Go to St Petersburg- you will enjoy it and you would not have any problems with your race ( granted, there are stupid people everywhere)
Moscow was fun for us as well!
Do you like art and theatre? Music? Russia is the best for that. We liked to take a train between Moscow and St Pete- they have fast train and slow overnight train- overnight train sleeping compartment could save you hotel night.
The only problem is Russian alphabet- if you familiarize yourself a bit- you won’t have any problems- they use a lot of English words transcribed in their alphabet- public transportation is awesome- subway has English signs. A lot of younger people speak English.
Another tip- fly non- stop.
Bad- you need to get visa- we don’t like to travel in groups- so had to find Russian- American company in New York to help us get visa- for a fee.
I have traveled throughout the U.S. alone. My favorite travel destinations in the states include: NYC, San Diego, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Raleigh, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Honolulu, Chicago, Atlanta, Virginia Beach, D.C. and Arlington, VA.
I've also traveled throughout the Caribbean to Jamaica, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Aruba, St. Marten, and Antigua and to Puerto Vallarta and Cancun Mexico. A few years ago, I visited Africa (Senegal and Gambia), Canada (Toronto and Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Europe (Geneva, Switzerland).
This summer, I'm supposed to visit Italy (Rome and the Amalfi Coast) with a black female travel group, but I haven't given my full deposit yet, and I'm now having reservations about the travel, after reading about the racial issues throughout Italy. --But then again, I imagine the racial issues are probably not as bad as in the U.S.
I honestly hate to hear that about Italy.....but it's a well-diversified country.
...you'd be missing a lot if you avoid it. One of my favorite travel spots....did you get that info from someone who's been there or just an article?

Yes....I'd avoid that. Even when in groups, I read women can be harrassed.
I don’t imagine you will have much trouble in Asia. I lived in Japan for two years and worked with a black Jamaican woman who often traveled by herself with no issues and also traveled around Asia. She had a great time her 3 years in Japan and got to see a lot of Asia as well. One of my black friends is going on a three-week trip to England this summer (she has been before) and is going to Paris as well. She has family in London. I think your concerns are a bit overblown as a lot of areas in Europe (particularly the larger cities), are quite diverse.
