Some of the Pueblos in New Mexico require you to get a license ($15 per day) to use a camera, ANY CAMERA, on the Pueblo.
When we saw the sign, we stopped the car, put cameras and cell phones in the trunk and entered the visitor center.
That I kind of understand. It's not a public space, you are essentially going into someones home (or village). These Pueblos they can just as easily forbid entry by non-tribe members.
It's a social media millennial term - those celebrities and others that happen to have a popular youtube, twitter, or facebook site, and are followed by millions of this generation to tell them (influence them) on what to wear, what to buy, what to do, all based on the concept of internet "hits" or "likes"....
I know what you are thinking, I don't get it either...just take it as another sign of the "End of Days".
You're just begging for an "Okay, Boomer" response.
As dumb as influencers are, it's not a new concept. They're just using a new platform.

You likewise are begging for an "OK boomer" for not realizing the distinction.
People may have been influenced by celebrities and politicians in the past but it's clear we are talking about social media influencers as the internet has given tools to allow any idiot other than the above to communicate examples of idiocy to the masses.
This has grown exponentially the last few years (10X increase by one account since 2014), so....yes, yes it is a new concept.

Just another example of idiots acting like fools in other countries' landmarks and sacred institutions for the sake of narcissistic social media posts.
I would be careful in terms of disrespecting other countries ancient and cultural sites as some countries have very harsh laws including corporal punishment.
I would also be careful of taking pictures of military or security buildings, as this will be seen as spying in some countries and you can receive a long prison sentence.
The man who climbed the pyramid was an idiot with no respect for other people culture, and I hope he is now banned from the country.

The interesting thing is, he wasn't the first "influencer" and he won't be the last who will climb the pyramids to get likes. I thought I remember at least one if not more influencers climbing the pyramids at night to get that same selfie with their feet at sunrise a few years ago. I don't believe they were caught and jailed like this guy, maybe they just got lucky.
Regardless, that he can get injured is of little concern to me, but it is disrespectful and these people potentially damage this 3,000 year old monument for what is a pretty selfish reason. For 3,000 years it has survived everything mother nature and man has thrown at it, only to be damaged by hundreds of idiots wanting to post a picture on facebook!
Anyways Egypt is not exactly a great place to send time in jail. I am sure jailers introduced his private parts to a cattle prod during his stay.
3000 years ago, the pyramids of Giza were already 1500-2000 years old
Morons like that need WAY more jail time. Enough that they say it wasn't worth it or we will just see more of this.
Why? Personally I would much rather see the jails filled with rapists, thieves and murderers. He needs a big fat fine is about it. Being a narcissist is not a criminal offense. Although come to think about it perhaps it should be given some politicians we have.

You are right of course. What is amazing, reading up on some of the history of the Pyramids and other ancient Egyptian sights, these sights were being looted, abused, and damaged even in what we consider ancient times. 3000 years ago indeed there were idiots even then breaking into the pyramids. Back then however the pyramids had a smooth polished limestone covering so it was more difficult (if not impossible) to climb.

Celebrity come by ways other than in the old days. Forgive them. Same story, different cover.
