We have plans to fly to Vienna, Austria and after seeing Vienna drive into Slovenia and Croatia.
I am reading that a couple of cases of Corona virus have been detected in Slovenia.
If I cancel now I can get a refund on just about everything. Should I cancel or not?
When is your trip? Can you get travel insurance with a "cancel for any reason" rider? (has it been more than 30 days since your first payment on the trip?)
My experience is one can secure hotel reservations, with no up front charge, but a cc # to secure. They will charge your card - hotel dependent - anywhere from one to two weeks before the beginning of your stay. Set up a reminder of charge dates, adding one week, with daily repeat so you give yourself plenty of head room to cancel without charge.
Hotels are often booked at a lower rate if you pay at the time of booking. That's what I did.
We have reservations at a hotel in Vegas at the end of May for our anniversary. We haven't canceled them yet, but we're ready to if we don't feel safe going there at the end of May. We're keeping an eye on things around the world, and the country. We also have a trip to Glacier National Park in August that I'm hoping we won't have to cancel, but we will do so if we seem necessary.

I think its too late for that. Its no longer an unforeseeable event. It was declared an even in mid/late Jan.

As of two days ago, the "cancel for any reason" rider was still an option where I was looking into travel insurance for my trip (just not an option for me, since my first payment was back in November).
It wouldn't be covered without the rider since most travel insurance policies don't cover cancellations due to epidemics. But it would be covered under "cancel for any reason".

It was an option for me too (made deposit less than a month ago), but looking into it, this virus wasn't covered under CFAR any longer. Weird, but that's what I was getting. Maybe it was just those providers, or because I was over 21 days, but under a month. Not sure. I thought it was weird.
I guess I'm standing pat with whatever CSR coverage helps.

We have a trip planned to Europe for a month in August. The airfare for 2 is 1200 and non refundable. We will cancel if things aren’t better. We have half the hotels booked but not paid for. We are both 65 with chronic conditions so have to be careful.
I imagine you can get some pretty good deals on travel in the next few months. The industry is really taking a beating. It's kind of temping.
I am not worried about catching the virus, I am more worried about getting quarantined someplace. Travel insurance would cover that I believe since it is not you canceling the flight.

If this is still going on in August, the entire world is going to be facing massive economic problems. I don't think any of us will be thinking about vacations.
Quarantine on a Greek Island, may not be a bad idea.
