What is the ugliest road in America??? (airport, route, highway)

My vote would be for the highway between Carlsbad NM and El Paso TX.
Shortly after entering TX the road crosses a dry lake bed....I took my hands off of the weel and didnt touch it again for 21 miles....mad one turn and took them off again for about 15 miles......
I 3rd the NJ Turnpike. Especially in the upper reaches then again down in the southern reaches.
In the upper end the smells just turn your stomach. You look down and see the worlds largest oil reserves. I can remember before the Meadowlands were built we use to go down there and play. We would throw a rock into the water and it would not even splash.
Oh, I dunno, the NJ Tpk has a sort-of "industrial strength" beauty... But deciding which way to go at the split just N of Exit 15E distracts you from all that scenic beauty...
After much thought, I'd have to go with CA 99 in the Central Valley of California.
You know, Cleosmom, I think you've got a winner there. Although there are stretches that haven't been ruined yet that I feel like I'm back in the '50s when agricultural land was more prevelant than sprawl.
Say, while we're talking about CA 99, did you ever wonder who the heck Jack Tone, the namesake of the road at the exit where the Flying J is, was named after? It's in Ripon, CA. (I had WAAAY too much time to think at the wheel...)
the ugliest road i've ever been to is route 54 here in GA in Cayton County, just a buch of urban sprawl and it goes through some slummy neighborhoods.
Also I-78 in NJ when youre in the NYC metro is pretty awful; but once you get into the rural areas is complete different story though.
