In the comfort and security of their car, a family thought there was nothing to worry about as they drove through a South African safari park - until a lion calmly opened their back door with his teeth.

The lion may have appeared wild, but it had clearly learnt one or two things about cars after years of watching curious visitors drive past.

Why would someone drive through a safari park with their car doors unlocked?

The real question is, why would a tourist go to a fake Jo'sburg "safari park" when you had real natural parks 300 miles away in Kruger National Park, or Botswana, or in the reserved areas of the Zulu-Natal? Lazy Brit. You mine as well visit a downtown zoo in Toledo.

I can tell you as a fact you don't get the real african wildlife anywhere near Jo'sburg. The lion was obviously tame to humans and somehow associated cars with food, thus turing a noble creature like a lion into the equivalent of a racoon. Unlocked cars are relatively safe in a place like Kruger and real wildlife areas, the wildlife has no concept of what a car is or what's in it.

Yeah, we've got a fake safari drive-through in Central Oregon..The staff always make sure to remind you to keep your windows rolled up in the lion and grizzly bear areas..

I've never been there, but that's just a geological park right (caves and such). No indication that it's a wildlife reserve.
Big enough to be one however.

I have been there and there is a safari there! Most of the animals roaming around freeing. But there are 2 larger areas that are fenced off - one with Wild Dogs and the other with Lions' Prides. The fenced area with the Wild Dogs can be entered during feeding times but all cars are with the windows rolled up and locked.
