I'll estimate that we get a foot of snow per year on average. Occasional years more like 3', but I've seen winters with just one piddly 4" snowfall. If you want a lot of snow, we probably aren't your ideal choice. However, we are close to areas that have higher altitude and catch significantly more.

If you want an area that has significant snow *every* year, at least historically, this ain't it. Although if this year's winter is some sort of new normal, IMHO that was enough snow for any sane person.

You may find Levenworth, Spokane, and/or Wenatchee more to your liking, if you have to have snow in winter.

Average from 1948-2005 is 7.8 inches of snow annually. The Tri-Cities is in the driest part of the State.

The Nez Perce came to the Columbia basin in winter to avoid the snow. From what I was told Kennewick is supposed to be an American Indian word for "winter paradise". For people living off the land that would mean less rather than more snow.

Default What's a "Must"

I have to ask whether she's actually needing the snowfall to be right where she lives and works, or whether she's asking about it because she's a snow-skiing/snowboarding/cross-country skiing/snowmobiling person. Or maybe she likes jumping naked out of the hot tub at home and rolling in the snow?

If she's asking about the winter sports activities, then she should know that all the above activities are within a fairly short drive of the Tri Cities and have active clubs here.

Or maybe she just likes the adrenaline rush of sliding across Gage and Steptoe without getting plowed into by oncoming traffic. If that's the case, this was a pretty good December/January for that!
