Apparently, ransom kidnappings are starting to target ordinary "99 percenters" in urban areas, to resolve what ought to be small problems -- you owe me some money, you insulted me, etc. In the case above, the kid was murdered because they couldn't get any money out of his ATM.
Its pretty stupid to kidnap someone because they had no money from their atm. Im saying this from a criminals view. Kidnapping in some states comes with a heft sentence, more so than armed robbery.
It is a state offense if you kidnap but turns federal if you take the person across state lines.
Its a class A felony if you kidnap with a firearm in most states. That usually equals 10 to 25 years or often life in prison, depending on the circumstances.
Like I said, pretty stupid to kidnap someone because they only had 20 dollars on them.
This is nothing new you just very rarely here about this types of kidnappings because.
1). The media usually can't make a good story out of it.
2). Kidnapping is not considered a violent crime by FBI UCR definition, which is why most kidnappings
get coded as a robbery - which leads to the media not paying much attention to the police report.
