Guilty police? You should be banned for even stating this ignorant comment.

There's bad people in all professions that's life.

I think perhaps its more that police do not use force nesseassry to protect themselfsimes and get killed> who would want to be a polcie offcie i chicago with the numbers being murder daily.they surpassed last year the other day. it was like 265 murders in first six months;more than Capone days.

I can see the police being bitter and defensive in certain areas. How do you work in communities that hate you and do a good job. You probably start getting that 'us against them' mentality. On the other hand, there are decent families trying to bring their kids up correctly, respecting police, in those areas and police misconduct is not helping the situation.

All I can think of is cycling police in and out of those areas so the cops maintain a decent perspective. Find some other way to reward a cop for a job well done than giving him a nice area to work in - and continue to remind police that wherever they go people observe them and expect exemplary conduct, as becoming the uniform and the trust the public places them in.

I think police get burned out, and that must be addressed but I also think a corrupt cop should have the book thrown at him or her, just because they really should be an example to the rest of us not to be hot heads, to think before you act, to be polite and respectful to those around you. Yeah, sounds childish, but some of those basic things we were all taught early on get tossed by the wayside as we mature. They make for a better operating community.

I wish all police were as thoughtful as those on the tv cop shows.

Excellent point. How do we combat police burnout. Its real folks. VERY REAL. And, like it or not, it IS YOUR problem. The police are a direct result and problem of society. You (general term here) want great oversite and massive "watches" on the police. That is fine and well, however, you are also responsible for their psychiatric/mental health. If this was monitored more closely, ever stop to think some (not all) of the problems certain officers cause, could be reduced? VASTLY?

We, as a society, do a great job of recruiting, hiring, and training police officers. However, that is where it ends. We do a poor job of working with them, keeping them mentally stable, through the hell WE put them through.

Regarding the Houston case, the victim was a wheelchair bound double amputee who, according to the police, threatened them with an offensive weapon that they thought was a gun.

The two officers were less than eight feet away from the victim, and yet they could'nt tell that the guy was holding a ballpoint pen? they must have been or blind or drunk.
