We have a new Most Engaging Poster Contest for forum members with 10 $500 cash prizes ($5,000 in total prizes). In addition to the factors counted in our previous Most Informative Poster contests, we will count these factors highly:
  • Ability of the contestant to motivate other forum users to create informative posts by starting engaging forum threads or by posting engaging posts, without provoking emotional responses or disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
  • Ability of the contestant to bring up and sustain discussions of topics that have not been previously extensively discussed in a given forum.
You will be able to enter here.

All members need to enter by themselves in order to qualify for prizes.

All posts made prior to the contest period will count and all posts made during the contest period will count seven times more.

All previous contest winners will be eligible to win with the following limitations: previous $5000 winners and $500 winners - only their posts after the end date of the last contest that they won will count.

For the last contest, I noticed that the winners were people who posted heavily in the city and state forums as opposed to all of the other forums (politics, food, TV, etc)? Is there a bias or special consideration given to the city/state forums?

There is no intentional bias but local forums, as opposed to a lot of general ones, tend to require more informational posts.

The whole "engaging" thing is a turnoff to me. First, it penalizes good, helpful, informative posters who don't start threads, "engaging" ones or not, since that's one of the criteria (and there are thousands of that kind of poster here). Second, posters don't set out in most threads to be "engaging" in their posts. Just what is an "engaging" post? One that gets responses that don't end up violating the TOS? If that's all it means, then it's pretty simple. Somehow I think the judges are looking for more than that.
