Chicago 217 (137 this time last year) - Current Pace: 740 murders.
Los Angeles 98 (88 this time last year) - Current Pace: 330 murders.
Baltimore 84 (74 this time last year) - Current Pace: 310 murders. (technically 390, but I made an adjustment because of riots)
Saint Louis 57 (55 this time last year) - Current Pace: 195 murders.
This would put:
Chicago: 27.2 per 100k
Los Angeles: 8.5 per 100k
Baltimore: 49.8 per 100k (62.7 if you don't adjust for 2015 riots)
St. Louis: 61.2 per 100k
NYC is still down from 2015 but it's up 4.4% from 2014. So it should finish over 300. As much as NYC's improved, it's still a US city and I can't picture it dipping into the 80s and 90s for an entire year like London.

Its just reporting standards. I'm trying to figure out is it common to include police killings in the homicide rate, or are police killings viewed separately?
No. Police involved shootings are not tracked.
Quote:
Getting reliable data on fatal police encounters in the United States is notoriously difficult. The FBI has struggled to gather the most basic data, relying on local police departments to voluntarily share information about officer-involved shootings. Since 2011, less than 3 percent of the nation’s 18,000 state and local police agencies have done so.
And the numbers posted here are all preliminary. They may be a homicide that was classified as criminal originally but can eventually be ruled differently after further investigation, homicide turned out to be justified, happened in another jurisdiction, was ruled accidental or was changed to unexplained death.

Atlanta this time last year was at 31, so now the increase is down to about 10%. Last year around April was when the big surge happened, while this year it happened earlier and slowed down a bit. Hopefully later this year will be quiet like the later part of last year.
