Occasionally, some event occurs that reminds you truth can be stranger than fiction. The murder of Brian Wells, and the scheme in which he was a willing or unwilling participant, is one of them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Brian_Wells
Yeah. i was there when that happened. Had no idea what was going on. I was doing a project for Lowes at the time and I think that was the second day i was in Erie, PA. Saw all the activity but had no idea what it was until the next day and of course, it didn't really hit the national news for a week or so.
It seems now that he likely was involved, but was double crossed. The thought is that he was in on the scam and then when he showed up to have the collar put on he kinda realized "Hey, that REALLY looks real" and tried to back out, but..
Buzzfeed Unsolved did a very good episode on this.
The trial had more valid facts about the true culprits of this horrendous plot.
The man died. That's a fact.
Was he involved- sure. He was involved by being stuck with a neck bomb and sent on a wild goose chase. No person deserved that death sentence.
Marjorie diehl Armstrong was the diabolical mastermind in this plot.
Her criminal behavior spanned back to the 60's and 70's.
I’m watching Evil Genius, the Netflix limited series on it now. Well, more like having it on as background noise, but fading in and out of paying attention.
It’s such a weird case though! Made just a little bit weirder by it inspiring the comedy film 30 Minutes or Less.
The real case was no joke though. Evil Genius actually shows the bomb going off and killing Wells. Technically they show right when the bomb goes off and just after and cut out probably the goriest stuff caught on film in the middle. So it’s edited, but probably not as much as some would’ve like it to be.
