I was just watching a story about this issue on (gasp!) CNN. She had an e-mail account, access to a computer and a cell phone. Curiouser and curiouser!

From what I gather from reading the article, it sounds like she has been thoroughly brainwashed so the fact that she had a computer and e-mail account was not a threat to her kidnappers.

Computer, email, cell phone, who really cares? SHe was a child! She was probably ashamed and too frightened to contact her family after all she had been through.
