We were outside doing stuff on the property for 6 hours or so and actually got sunburned. Now, in truth they WERE having warmer than normal weather that week - but STILL, just the fact that you CAN hit 80 degrees & you CAN be out all day in shortsleeves & get sunburned is pretty cool (I don't recommend getting the sunburn though).

Ken, you haven't retired down there yet? I remember talking to you last year and I thought you were getting ready to retire. You had sent me some pictures of your piece of land over there.

Actually I am retired but so far have been unable to sell my house in Seattle. Took it off the market over the winter but thinking of trying again coming up (& being more aggressive & inventive this time around). Also considering just renting the house up here out.

Do you have a house built in AZ yet? Or still sitting on the land until you sell in Seattle? You going to do it yourself or have it built?

No, no house down there yet. I have had some improvements made to the lot however. Toying with the idea of maybe just putting up a less expensive manufactured home on the lot - or maybe even just buying a foreclosed house in Tucson (since you can get them pretty cheap) & renting my house here in Seattle out so that we could get down to the general area. Not excited about the hassles of renting this place out though (and being a long-distance landlord - not to mention the fact that we'd probably have to fill-in the fish pond etc). If we did go that route then once the housing market improves we'd try again to the sell the Seattle house, put up the home we'd like on the land and either sell or rent the Tucson house for additional retirement income. To really move down there the way we want to (with the nicer home that we'd like), we really have to sell the home up here though (which of course is hard to do right now - unless we take a real beating on the price - hence the exploration of alternatives). We could of course take the money we're considering spending on a house in Tucson & simply put up a "less nice" manufactured home on the land (but I'd rather wait & put up a nicer one).

Finally, we also have a motor home we're fixing up & are considering going on the road for a few months before we put the home up down there (whether we sell the house here in Seattle or just rent it out). And if that's not enough, my wife's sister has offered to let us stay with her in LV for a while (she lives in a big 4,000 sf house that she rattles around in).

No shortage of options really, it's just that our preferred one (simply sell the house here & put up what we want down there) is elusive right now in the current housing market. After our trip down there last week however (when the weather was sooooooo nice (exceptional even for there - it was 80 on my B-day (Jan 15th)) we REALLY want to do SOMETHING to get us down there SOON (hence the consideration of buying a foreclosed home in Tucson to live in a for a few years until the housing market improves here in Seattle).
