I was wondering what are the prevailing choices for both cable TV and Internet service providers throughout Tucson are?

A friend of mine lives in the foothills on Kolb. Rd just north of Sunrise, which according to him is outside of the city limits, and that Comcast is his only choice since he's renting a condo.

Besides DirecTV, are there any other options besides Comcast?

Thanks!

We dumped cable and satellite in our home and got a Roku box instead. With over 500 channels to choose from and more being added. With no monthly cable bill it has saved us over $800.00 a year!. We got tired of the cable bill going up and the service going down. Now we get our Internet and TV for $19.99 a month with NO CONTRACTS!. As long as you can get basic Internet at your location, a Roku box will work just great!! The only question left to answer is.... What will your wife do with the extra $800.00 in her wallet?

the "prevailing" choices are Comcast outside the city limits and Cox within....there's also CenturyLink (?), which was Qwest, the main phone company....I presume there are other less well-known options, too, which may be very competitive...

I went with Century Link (formally Qwest) and I'm in the NW area of greater Tucson. Century Link is bundled with DirectTV, however. No contract (with Century Link - however there is a 2 year contract with DirectTV), and the bundled price is locked from price increases for 5 years.

I subscribe to Sprint Mifi 3G, Sprint: Meet the MiFi , if you prefer a wireless internet connection. The Sprint Mifi hardware cost around 150 bucks and I pay a monthly no contract of $40. The downside of using this setup is you will get choppy video streaming. If all you want is surf the web without any videos this will do.

There's also Clear's 4G wireless, How CLEAR's Wireless 4G Internet Works | CLEAR . Haven't tried this but it says it has a no data cap option which means that after a number of megabytes of downloads per month, the company won't slow your download speed - a problem I have with Sprint Mifi.

The advantages of wireless internet with Clear and Sprint other than 'no contract' is that you don't have to deal with all those extra fees the 'cabled' internet firms charge you such as connection fee etc... Plus if you move around town ( as long as you are within their range ) connecting to the internet is flawless.

I had Cox and Comcast internet cable ( and tv ), they we're great but at some point the cost got expensive and rising - $130 a month (internet/cable).

I'll try that Clear wireless internet someday as soon as I move in an area within their range.

We got ours at a Tucson Radio Shack store, But you can also buy them online at Roku. We have used this box now for some time and it has satisfied our TV needs 100%. I must also say we don't miss the cable bill either!
