But, hey, yeah, let's dredge up this old post to advise everyone to carry a sidearm and to instill fear in people who have no experience living here.
Better to assume and stay safe.

Whether this post is a year old or one from today-it still points to a larger problem in many cities. The bold will always prey on the weak, and I hold to my opinion that people should be allowed to carry a weapon for their own protection. Anyone naive enough to think a police officer is just going to magically appear and help someone in an instance like this is a ridiculous notion at best. I think that it's time for people to start pushing for better laws so WE AS A SOCIETY can protect ourselves. I currently live in NJ, and I can't even own a slingshot. Getting a weapon involves so much paperwork and jumping thru hoops that most people just give up. And a permit to carry or conceal carry? FORGET ABOUT IT. It's easier getting a tank on the black market. Carry a baseball bat in your car for times like the OP mentioned? Forget it. Even a pocket knife is suspect in NJ because you might be a criminal instead of a law abiding citizen just trying to make sure you have options. And as long we live in fear rather than in power, then the bold will continue to prey on the weak. And yes- lessons should be mandatory.. And yes- be ready to act in any situation.
