This is absolutely correct! There are time you really have to judge it block by block and crossing to the opposite side of a major road can change things dramatically. This was actually one of the tougher things for me to get my mind around when I moved here. With a few exceptions you cannot categorically say THIS is a good part of town and THAT is a bad part.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not "super" familar with Avondale in particular, but I've spent a good deal of time in the area and it seems to be a pretty average Tucson neighborhood and I've never heard of it being a particularly bad area. Here's general info on Avondale: //www.city-data.com/neighborhoo...Tucson-AZ.html

Thanks for the link and the info.

The Foothills and zips 85750 and 85718 do fit your description quite well. We live in 85750 about 2 miles from Sabino Canyon. Avoiding an HOA completely will greatly restrict your choices as a lot of the housing is in developments of one sort or another. But you can find areas with individual houses that have only minimal HOA fees if any. A good real estate agent should be able to help you find what you want.

Take a look at the Tanque Verde area east of Pantano. I think the area around the Safeway and the library would be attractive. The prices are going to be higher. You didnt mention how much you are willing to spend. If your looking for a small house on a larger lot there might be a hidden gem in the Wrightstown area that would be more affordable.

Generally, yes, but I have not seen exact coverage maps, and it depends on what you mean by "high-speed." You would need to check coverage for any address you were considering.

The choice is usually between Century Link DSL and either Cox or Comcast cable, depending on which cable company serves your area. Comcast serves our location in 85750, while Cox serves friends of ours in 85718. Claimed download speeds are higher with cable than with with DSL and are dependent on the exact location.

We use Century Link DSL with a claimed download speed of 20 mbps and with speedtest.net regularly reporting about 15 mbps. As usual with DSL, upload speed is less than 1 mbps; cable is definitely faster if you do a lot of uploading.

Fiber optic to the home and Verizon's FIOS and AT&T's super fast service are not offered anywhere in Tucson that I know of.

Thanks Seeker4. Here in Canada we are used to a download speed of about 17 mbps – so when we move to Tucson we’ll look to see if Century Link DSL will be available in the home we are looking to purchase in the Foothills.
