I fully understand, TwoWheelMan . . .

Back when I was searching I soon learned there were no "perfect" places to live so it was more a "flip of the coin" type of decision. That's when I decided to pick convenient location (read: walking distance to just about anything / everything) over exotic views or chic addresses.

Once again, Good Luck.

In other parts of the country water is not an issue but I know it certainly is in AZ. so for a household on the NE side of town what kind of water bills do you all have to pay? Years ago when I lived there I could not drink the tap water because it was too high in mineral content and would give me kidneystones. So do most folks drink filtered tap water or bottled water? I have been reading about how folks around the Saddlebrooke community are getting gouged with their water bills...so I dont want to get sucked into something like that.
Years ago long before the CAP reached town there were public requests to beat the peak water useage in the summers...is that still a reality? Thanks again for everyone's input

Where I live I understand a lot of the homes used to have grass. Now out of 169 homes in the HOA only one has grass. The water bills run between $43-$48. They should be lower but some people like to use a lot of water even though most of the homes are patio homes. There are still trees in the common areas and other plants that get watered. Some of the low rain years have put a lot of the trees and cactus under stress. I have seen some of the mesquite and palm trees just die. Most of Tucson seems to have Xeriscape landscape which means using low water plants. A $100 average water bill in Tucson wouldnt be that hard to get if you decided to water a lot of trees and plants. The average according to the City of Tucson website is about $30.

Thanks BK...I dont believe in grass ...I do like the desert scapes with neat gravel yards...fine with me...lawns should be outlawed...I love what the natural desert has to offer ...I dont need to bring all the eastern plants and they really dont belong there...but thats obviously up for debate...actually I find it alarming how many people have moved in and around southern arizona and build homes in the Catalina foothills right up to the National forest boundaries...I am concerned that the land and water resources may not be adequate for future populations. So again while most folks coming here dont think about it...water is a huge concern. I wonder what the the future holds for Az being able to sustain the population while groundwater tables are depleted faster than they can be replenished...

Excellent point, TwoWheelMan . . .

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who moves to the Desert Southwest and insists on grass and/or other "foreign" plants is doing nothing but declaring war on Mother Nature.

Remember . . . sooner or later Mother Nature always wins.
