Yes! Looks like the new year is bringing me something I wanted! Obviously, it's gonna take a long while, but it's happening! Even though it's not a sealed deal, sounds a lot more reassuring than at the beginning of '07. Hope I don't jinx it.

Giant Phoenix mall developer Westcor will soon secure a permit to create a master plan for 12,000 acres of state land on the Southeast Side along South Houghton Road.

Several Tucson officials say the project will be one of the biggest in Tucson's history, creating a "second city" with residential and commercial development along with open space.

Naturally, most of Tucson is very unhappy (see comments)... , but what else is new...

Just looking at the map, I have to wonder what will happen to Davis-Monthan Air Force base. Will they be building homes in the flight path?

Well, if you read the comments in the paper, you'll see many lamenting about the possible move of DM. As far as I'm concerned, I'll be happy to see it gone yesterday. Somebody was saying it will have to go to other 'wasted deserted land' (almost a quote)... not realizing he was kinda describing his favorite Tucson... (let's give a little leeway - perhaps when DM was built)

It's not like they haven't built in the flight path already... Rita Ranch is pretty much under it, isn't it?!

That was an interesting map showing the correlation between living under the darn path and the activity in elections:

DM is dearly loved, particularly by Julia Keen...
