Try Poco & Mom's -- not typical TexMex

Poco and Mom's has been recommended to you.

Yes, very good food there, and the Mexican food they serve is actually listed as a New Mexican style menu.

Their Cantina/Restaurant is located at 7000 E. Tanque Verde Rd, where they have an enjoyable patio as well.

Having grown up in Tucson and now living in Sierra Vista I have some definite preferences.
First some of the best Mexican restaurants in Tucson are in South Tucson. They have been there since the early days. 1910 or so. MiDito on South 4th is a great example, Bill Clinton ate there and took an unknown guest (wink)
Club 29 is n the old North side of town on Oracle They opened during WW2. I took an unknown guest there after a UofA victory over ASU once. She had two of their delicious Margaritas and fell over backwards on the floor. So watch the alcohol level on those things because they tast like Lime sodas.

My favorites now are Casa Molina on Speedway, it has been there since 1936 and was a favorite of John Wayne and Tom Mix. The round room in back has pictures of famous Matadors including my best friend Diego O'Bolger who is Mexico's #4 ranked Matador of all time. There are other locations and the one on Campbell is the nicest.
The place already noted is also really excellent.

For Steakhouses the most famous is the Pinnacle Peak on Tanque Verde. It had a couple of bad years but is darn near back to where it should be. Do not wear a tie. If there are celebs in town they might be in there.

My wife loves the Arizona Inn very high on the nice people level, food is great and i don't fit in, but when I was in H School I cleaned the swimming pools one summer and met the Duchess of Windsor there.

For newer places my wife likes the Vivace on River Road and Campbell. The Trident Grill on Speedway and Tucson Blvd.

Finally for seafood the Kingfisher on Grant Road.

Is Pinnacle Peak connected with the one in Phoenix? I’ve eaten at the one in Phoenix.

I was born in Phoenix and lived there about 10 years. Phoenix is too hot for me now. I’ve lived most of my life in the Mojave Desert between the Sierras and Death Valley. Used to dry heat, cool summer nights, and plenty of sun. I am also used to cold winters with lots of wind.

Considering moving due to my health and growing tired of making 200 plus mile round trips to see the specialists.

Thanks!
