Everyone always asks "Where's the best/safest/funnest/hippest/retirementiest place to live in Tucson?" It's not a bad question, but my problem with it is that it's just so dang broad; so subjective.

Perhaps more to the point is the question "Where in Tucson would you never want to live - AND WHY?" Maybe it's too far away, too much graffiti, too much traffic, too hilly and you get a little carsick; maybe you just don't like the street names.

So, have at it. I'd love to hear what people think.

There are many small neighborhoods within Tucson where I would never live.

Specifically, I would never live south of 22nd Street from about Kolb Road to the freeway. While, there are some good neighborhoods sprinkled in that area, the majority of the area has a higher crime rate than most of Tucson. In part of that area, closer to Alvernon and Kolb, you have to also deal with with military planes flying 3 feet over your house. I'll pass, thanks.

I would also never live between Grant Road and Prince Road between Mountain Avenue and the freeway. This is an extremely large area, but there are too many sketchy areas in that corridor for my enjoyment.

I would never live in the neighborhood between Silverbell and the freeway going from Speedway down to 22nd Street. The crime rate is there is quite high as well.

Lastly, the area around Alvernon and Grant has always struck me as being very unattractive and unsafe feeling.

It's very easy - look at the crime maps. The darker the color, the more I don't want to live there.

as one here said, the Grant and Alvernon area is not so good....many drivers here dread that intersection, as there are pedestrians perennially crossing seemingly 24/7 and, thus, the right lanes never move thru the intersection quickly....backup ensues and it often takes a couple or three lights to move thru, even in non-rush hour times....nearby halfway houses and public housing explain this excess of pedestrians headed to nearby bus stops or food stores.....at least they're out walking and not clogging up the roads with cars!!!

the "Vistas" neighborhood is considered one of the most dangerous in the city....S of 36th St and E of Kino....so called because all the street names end with "Vista"....very crowded little 'hood with small lots, narrow streets, junk in the yards, people looking at you as you drive by.....

Unfortunately and contrary to what many may think, JillBoBill . . .

Except for maybe the Upper Foothills and a few more exclusive areas, Tucson has "less than great" pockets in most all neighborhoods.

Not to toot my own horn or jinx it, but we're fine East of Houghton and always have been as I've lived in this area for years in the past as well.
