I keep trying to post and then not seeing it posted so if this is a repeat...sorry!!! Anyway, I am from CA and was thinking of moving to OK and was wondering, what are the downsides, it seems too good to be true? Also, what are the best neighborhoods in the Tulsa area? I was looking at broken arrow and bartlesville. I'm interested in suburban areas with nice families. I'm not into clubhouses and housing devekopments, but also don't want to be surrounded by "trashy people" any advice?? oh and is it so humid you want to die? thanks!

No catch. The homes in OkC and Tulsa are below the national average because there was no real housing bubble, which is why the recession hasn't hit in Oklahoma as bad as other areas in the US.

Oklahoma has always had a lower cost of living because it's not on the East or West coast, hasn't been considered one of the more desirable places to live (ie, mega city with umpteen millions of people), and other factors such as weather (hot Summers, Springtime which can be eventful, and other things). These are all false assumptions in my opinion, but in reality I don't mind because I'd like to return to Oklahoma someday, in a rural setting. And the less people the better.

It's a really great place, but I'm a homey; I'm from there and I love it. There is an abundance of natural beauty and the people are very genuine and honest (at least in the rural areas).

The downside: Employers in Oklahoma generally don't pay very high wages. The ones that do are fewer and farther between. I myself have wanted to return to Oklahoma, but cannot find a job in the state that would provide for my lifestyle (which is NOT exhorbitant).

Ironically, the best job that I've had in the past several years was with a corporation out of Oklahoma, but we were unable to move there because of ties to the DFW area. I worked from home at the time. The place that I worked for had high wages and great benefits but unfortunately I was laid off along with a hundred other people at the end of March.

Unfortunately, since I was laid off and now have no real ties to the Texas area, I'm unable to find employment in Oklahoma (or anywhere for that matter).

Researching Oklahoma as a possible spot to relocate to from Sacramento, Ca. The big factor is being cost of living and housing costs as they are very high here. Tulsa seems to be a nice spot and surrounding areas. I spent several hours already reading the posts about Tulsa and enjoyed the pictures.
I am looking forward to reading more posts about Tulsa.
