Well, Mr. Simon Cowell has decided to move his UK show "The XFactor" to the US, which will premier this fall. Oh and this is why he ditched AI. Anyway, I've seen bits and peices of the UK show. The format is a little different than AI in that it had 4 groups: the over 25 group, young men/teens, young women/teens, and bands (singing group). The judges are also there to "mentor" whichever group they are assigned, and when someone of their group wins, they also win. So not only are the contestants battling, the judges are as well. They have yet to announce who the judges will be, besides Cowell himself. Some names I've heard flying around for the judging panel are Cheryl Cole (judge from UK Xfactor and UK singer) and Nicole Scherzinger.

I thought it would be interesting to hear opinions on whether this show will be as successful in the US as it is in the UK. If so, will it surpass AI? In my honest opinion these "talent" shows have been beaten to death and I haven't watched any since AI season 4. So what do ya think

I'm thinking it will do about the same as AI if not a little less. Many people will tune in to see what it's all about and then it will gradually drop in viewers. Does FOX really need two singing competition shows? If it does turn out to be a monster success I guess ABC will develop another dancing competition show and NBC will develop another weight loss competition show.

I figure it'll get huge ratings in the beginning because of Cowell. Otherwise the shows are way too similar. I'm fine with talent shows airing once in a while but now they are becoming to be a joke to me.

I am interested since there are a variety of different acts.
this AI is getting old and predictable. I think all the instant fame keeps the contestants from trying as hard as they use to, get to a certain spot and you have a guaranteed job on the tour.

But with this format, I've seen how the show can be more about the judges and less about the contestants. That kind of annoys me. IMO the "variety" of singers will be the same as AI, the only thing different is they will have group singers also. Nowadays, there aren't too many of those; everyone's out doing it solo :/

Sounds a lot like America's Got Talent on NBC.

I am looking forward to seeing Simon back on tv. I only watched Idol because of him.

^^ I can agree. He was very entertaining on AI, but I'm sure my viewership won't last after I've seen the tone deaf goof balls
